I began my journey in book and document repair in 2001 when it was my great honor to bench-train at the elbow of James W. Craven at the Bentley Historical Library at the University of Michigan. I worked with Jim for fourteen years until his retirement. During that time I also earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in printmaking from Eastern Michigan University. I opened Signature Book Arts in 2016 and, now that I am also retired, I devote my time to serving private clients.
My approach is to sit down with you in my home and together we'll examine your item. I'll want to know your plans for it: does it have sentimental value, collector's value, will you use it often, do you plan to preserve it for future generations? We'll discuss options and in about a week I'll send you a proposal. If you accept it, your item goes into the queue.
Please feel free to give me a call and ask questions. I look forward to hearing from you.
